Yesterday I saw a few tweets about updates to Windows Live and got very excited, then I saw it was only a few upgrades to the Windows Live Photos service. I am glad to see these updates as I didn’t like having to reload the page every time I clicked on another picture and its good to see the team supporting huge images now. I was disappointed though as I wrongly assumed there would have been other upgrades to other Windows Live services.
However, I do still think there will be upgrades and I just wonder that because this was a very small upgrade (they might argue the point but nothing major has been added or changed) for the Photos service that they are just getting it out of the way so the team can focus on other aspects of the Windows Live suite. We are pretty sure that Windows Live Wave 4 will have it by January next year, but as I am predicting we will see some kind of Wave 4 upgrade, whether it be a beta version of a final version, much sooner than that so I don’t think this update was simply like adding Quick Add to Windows Live Mail.
On a related note Microsoft held their annual company meeting yesterday and Windows Live was mentioned in a few tweets in a positive light, which Liveside says is not that common, sounds good for Windows Live to me. Also announced was Bing 2.0 that could be hitting as early as next week, I would love to see what else they have been up too with the decision engine, I already think it is excellent.
Update: The tide is coming in quicker than I first thought as Windows Live Calendar has now also been updated. Again its only small tweaks with the service to address some of the niggles and to cater to the loss of the Windows Live Events, lets hope the team are focusing on new services and that we will be seeing them soon.
I wonder what will be announced tomorrow.
