Dear Windows Live:
I want to call your attention to an inconsistency within the Windows Live Code of Conduct. First off, I with to quote this part of the Code of Conduct webpage:
Report violations of this Code of Conduct
This is your community. Help us make it strong, vibrant and enjoyable by all members.
- If you see content that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it for review.
I am a regular participant in all things Windows Live, and I do consider this my “community” as stated above. As a member of this community, I do wish to help it stay “strong, vibrant and enjoyable”, also as stated above.
There is a certain violation of the Code of Conduct for which there is no means of reporting set in place. Thus, there are two options:
- this used to be a violation, and it is no longer.
- this is a violation, but no method of reporting is in place yet, and it is important to modify the means of reporting to include this violation.
The violation of which I speak is listed under Prohibited Uses (copied in part, below)
You will not upload, post, transmit, transfer, distribute or facilitate distribution of any content (including text, images, sound, video, data, information or software) or otherwise use the service in a way that:
- contains or could be considered 'junk mail', 'spam', 'chain letters', 'pyramid schemes', 'affiliate marketing' or unsolicited commercial advertisement.
The location of the area in which no method of reporting is located is Windows Live Spaces. Currently, there are quite a number of Windows Live Spaces which are being utilized as stores to sell items.
The problem is that the owners of the Spaces then post spam directing potential customers to their stores in various places within the Windows Live community.
In addition, they send out spam emails to email accounts outside of the Windows Live community, again, directing potential customers to their Windows Live Space.
I can not believe that Window Live wishes to be associated with the mass mailing of Spam advertisements with graphic terms. directing people to Windows Live Spaces selling sexual aids I do not think that is the picture Windows Live and MSN wishes to see when thinking about them.
I receive several of these in my non-hotmail account in Microsoft Outlook per day. Each time, I add the email address to my blocked list, but additional email addresses are easy to come by, and the Spamming for the Windows Live Space goes on and on.
It states in the Code of Conduct that Windows Live can delete accounts for violations:
Termination and Cancellation
Microsoft reserves the right, at its sole discretion, and without any obligation to do so, to review and remove user-created services and content at will and without notice, and delete content and accounts. Microsoft reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to ban participants or terminate access to services.

You may use the Report Abuse link to report violations of this Code of Conduct.
Now, here is the problem. As a member of the Windows Live community, I want to help, as I am asked to do.
But, the “Report Abuse” link on Windows Live Spaces does not have the Spamming offense listed.
I am forced to report Spaces set up to send spam as “Other”. Reports to ‘Other” are always returned for more information routinely, and since I always give all the information in the “Abuse Report”, there is nothing new to send back. And there is drops.
As a member of Windows Live, I want to feel that steps are being taken to ensure that I am being protected from the risks of being online, including spam. Spam is intrusive, and wastes valuable time. I feel that Windows Live should strive to do all in its power to control it.
Allowing a Space that sends spam to continue to exist shows that Windows Live is not doing all it can to protect users and the communities it effects. Plus, it does not give a good impression of Windows Live.
I love my Windows Live Community, and I want to help keep my Community clean, as we are asked to do in the Code of Conduct. We are asked to report problems in our Community, therefore, we should be given ways to report them.
Please add “Spamming” to the list of “Types of Abuse” in the “Report Abuse” page for Windows Live Spaces.
