Learn How To Control Your Sky Drive
Many of you have heard of Windows Sky Drive and the many wonderful things you can do with it! I am going to attempt to bring some clarification to a few things that will hopefully make this more appealing for the many members of Live Spaces to participate in and with! So what is “Sky Drive"? It is an application that allows you to upload a variety of information to be stored on for personal safe keeping. What is really wonderful about “Sky Drive” is the fact that you can determine who can see which folders you create and those you desire to remain private. What I am going to do is walk you through some of the more essential things you need to know to start sharing your files.
SkyDrive Overview
What you are seeing here on the left is a complete view of several folders that I have created within Sky Drive.
If you can see them you will notice that some of the folders have locks on them. These are the ones that I have chosen to make private. The other folders with the globes on them are open to the public and the ones that have the little people by them are the ones that I specifically choose to share with those who are in my contacts within Live Spaces.
You can set the permission levels for every folder you create just as I have. We will discuss this more a little later in this blog on exactly how to accomplish that.
It is fairly simple and should not be overwhelmingly difficult for anyone to grasp and start to put into action at the conclusion of this post!
So with that being said…let’s take a deeper look into how you control every level of your “Sky Drive” and truly begin to recognize what a blessing it can be!
Adding More Files
After you have created folders to upload your files to here is the process you will need to follow to start to upload your collection of either photos, notes, videos and music.
Find the folder you created for your documents then click on it and it will take you to the area where you can browse on your hard drive where the document contained is located for you to upload!
Once everything is uploaded…..then you can start to truly take advantage of the way you and everyone else can view your files either within Sky Drive or if you choose to make them visible directly on your live spaces site as I have!
Below you will see an example of that in action!
Put It On Live Spaces
As you can see in the highlighted section of this illustration this is what my SkyDrive appears on my Live Spaces site. As you can see there are only certain folders which people can choose to view as opposed all the folders you seen on my Sky Drive itself.
This is the beauty of it! You pick and choose who see’s what.
A fully functional storage device that you are in control of with features galore. It’s all about personalization!
Do not let this frighten you as it is quite easy! Now let’s take a closer look at how to control who can see what within your Sky Drive.
Edit Permissions
After you have created the folder click on it and then where you see my arrow pointed to where it says “More” click on it till the menu drops down.
Once you have done so then notice the second item within it addresses permissions.
If you click on it it will give you several options of who can have direct access to your files or those you wish to have remain private.
This is one of the best features of Sky Drive.
The wonderful people of Microsoft have gone out of their way to ensure you have full and total control of your item’s you upload to Sky Drive.
So with that in mind, let’s continue to take a closer look at the security features.
Notice here on the left you can select to have your files viewable by everyone, your network, family or you can make it viewable by you and you only! Not only can you select who can view them but you can, also, determine to can upload to the folder, edit the materials and such!
Flexibility is the word of the day and ease of use!
