Here are a few steps to creating your own black and white and color pictures.
1: Open up Windows Live Photo Gallery, choose a picture, and make a copy of it (File>Make A Copy>Save).
2: Convert the picture to black and white (Go to Fix at top of Windows Live Photo Gallery to display basic editing tools in right column)
3: Go “Back to Gallery” (top left) which will save your black and white photo.
4: Find and select the color version of the same photo. Go up to the top and select Extras>Open With Paint. (Maximize Paint to see the picture on the full screen)
5: In Paint the picture will automatically open up 100x zoom. To change to zoom go to View>Zoom>Customize.
6: Use the Free-From Select tool in Paint (located in top left corner of the tool box)

7: Use the Free-form select tool and outline an area in the picture that you want to keep in color. When your finished outlining the area a square will go around the area.
8: Go up to Edit and select Copy.
9: Go back to Windows Live Photo Gallery and select the black and white picture. Open the black and white picture in Paint. (Extras>Open With>Paint)
10: When you have the black and white picture opened in Paint go up to Edit and select Paste. The area that you outlined in color will paste on the black and white picture. Make the area transparent! To make the area of the image you just pasted transparent (instead of the white background) click on the bottom box in the tool box left column. (look at following picture)

11: Hold down the left click and drag the color area over the black and white area. The area you outlined should line up exactly over the black and white area.
12: Save your work! Go up to File and click Save As. Give your file a new name if you want and then close Paint. Your new picture will be in the same folder in Windows Live Photo Gallery!
