Ever heard of FriendFeed? Its a service that allows you to aggregate lots of your activity from around the web and in that regard its not dissimilar to what Windows Live’s What’s New feed has become with the advent of web activities. Unfortunately FriendFeed doesn’t have any direct support for any Windows Live service as you can see from its list of supported services:
but nevertheless they do have support for multiple RSS feeds so you CAN show Windows Live content on there as long as there is an RSS feed for it.
Of late I have really gotten into Windows Live’s Shared Favorites feature which enables me to share interesting websites with my Windows Live contacts by clicking the ‘Share’ button on the Windows Live Toolbar. As you can see here I’ve shared quite a lot of late:

I really wanted to display my Shared Favorites on FriendFeed as well and (contrary to my earlier supposition) discovered that Windows Live Shared Favorites are indeed accessible via an RSS feed however you need to go through a few steps to enable them:
- You need to make your Shared Favorites publicly available which you do by first visiting http://skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.SharedFavorites and logging in with your Windows Live ID
- By default your Shared Favorites are only shared with your network:
so click on “My network” to be taken to a page entitled “Permissions for Shared Favorites”
- Click on “Edit permissions” to be taken to the following screen where you should check the check box to share with “Everyone (public)”:
and then hit “Save”.
- You’ll be returned to your Shared Favorites folder and you can get to RSS feed for the folder by selecting “RSS feed” from the “More” menu:
- Once that is all done its a simple task to copy and paste the URL for the RSS feed into FriendFeed (I’ll assume you can work that bit out for yourself)
Ideally Windows Live Shared Favourites would be a supported service on FriendFeed but currently there are zero Windows Live services on Friendfeed’s supported list which I find very disappointing. If you would like to see this changed then head for http://friendfeed.com/about/contact/servicerequest and request direct support for Windows Live Shared Favorites.
